Incommunicado's Restoration
I purchased my Kenner Privateer 26, Incommunicado, in December of 2003 in Norfolk, Va.The day we purchased her was one of those small craft advisory, winter days....white caps on the waters of Hampton Roads. The fellow from whom I purchased her offered to help sail to my slip in Portsmouth...about a two hour sail up the Elizabeth River. Our first voyage was exciting....water over the dolphins exciting, and we loved it. During the following months, I began the project of restoring Incommunicado to her former glory. Below you will see several before and after photos to document my progress so far. I decided to tackle the interior first, making her seaworthy, and comfortable. I replaced the through hull fittings, painted her bottom, and modified her engine well to accomodate a new Yamaha outboard. The interior was a mess. I replaced the sole, and scrubbed and painted, and improvised to the point that the 12v lighting and the fresh water system work, and friends are willing to enjoy the ambiance. This winter, I plan to paint the outside. I will let you know how that turns out.

The sole was replaced with fiberon decking....which allowed me to leave the structure of the head walls intact. This material is water proof, and has a non skid finish. It can be sanded to fit the space very well.
